Influence of Project Scheduling on the Timely Completion of the Rwandan Urban Development Project Phase in Musanze District, Rwanda

Abstract: This study assessed the influence of task identification on the timely completion of the Rwanda Urban Development Project Phase II (RUDP II) in Musanze District, Rwanda. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach using a descriptive and correlational research design. The target population comprised 230 project personnel, from which a sample of 146 respondents was determined using Yamane’s formula. Stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentary review and analyzed using SPSS Version 25. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression were used for quantitative analysis, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Descriptive findings indicated that task identification was generally well practiced, particularly in defining activities, sequencing tasks, assigning responsibilities, reducing confusion, and ensuring stakeholder understanding. Pearson correlation showed a strong positive and statistically significant relationship between task identification and timely project completion (r = 0.844, p = 0.000). Regression analysis showed that task identification significantly influenced timely completion and explained 71.3% of the variation in project completion (R² = 0.713, F = 297.762, β = 0.844, p = 0.000). The study concluded that effective task identification contributes substantially to timely project completion. It recommends clearly identifying and documenting tasks, establishing task sequences and dependencies, and assigning clear responsibilities to project personnel and stakeholders.
