Abstract: The general objective of this study was to assess the effect of communication management practices on project performance, with specific focus on Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project in Rwanda. Quantitative data were analysed using SPSS version 29 through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression to determine how each communication management component predicts project performance. The regression findings showed that communication management practices had a statistically significant positive effect on performance of the Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project. Specifically, communication planning had a positive and significant effect on project performance with β = 0.128, t = 3.048, and p = 0.003. Communication plan implementation also had a strong positive and significant effect with β = 0.408, t = 8.000, and p = 0.000. Communication monitoring and control positively and significantly influenced project performance with β = 0.126, t = 2.800, and p = 0.006. Interactive communication further had a positive and significant effect with β = 0.296, t = 5.103, and p = 0.000 all have a statistically significant positive effect on the performance of the Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project. The study concludes that these communication practices are vital determinants of project outcomes, with implementation serving as the strongest predictor of success. The researcher recommends that project management institutionalize digital feedback logging systems to further enhance operational responsiveness and stakeholder alignment.
