Effect of Revenue Recovery System on Performance of Rutongo District Hospital in Rulindo District, Rwanda

Abstract: This study examined the effect of the Insurance System on the Performance of Rutongo District Hospital in Rulindo District, Rwanda. Specifically, the study assessed the effect of the Insurance System on hospital performance. The study adopted a descriptive and correlational research design using a quantitative approach. The target population comprised 173 staff members, from which 112 support staff were selected and 108 questionnaires were returned. In addition, 61 key informants were interviewed. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and interviews and analyzed using SPSS Version 25. Descriptive statistics, Pearson Product-Moment correlation, and simple linear regression analysis were used. The findings showed that the Insurance System supports effective claims processing, improves revenue collection, facilitates reimbursement, and contributes to hospital performance. The correlation analysis indicated a positive relationship between the Insurance System and hospital performance (r = .562, p < .001). Regression analysis further showed that the Insurance System significantly influenced hospital performance. The study concluded that effective insurance claims management, timely reimbursement, and accurate billing contribute to improved hospital performance. The study recommends strengthening insurance claims processing, improving collaboration with insurance providers, and enhancing the monitoring and management of insurance reimbursements and recovered revenue.
