Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of trends in admittance and equity in higher education. Using Qualitative approach in data collection, this study answered the following questions: Are Male students currently disadvantaged in admittance to higher education in favour of female students? What is the impact this imbalance in relation to job market demands for skilled labour from both sexes? What long-term initiatives might significantly increase the number of male students admitted to higher education institutions for gender equity? The findings were that the available data on trends in admitting students in higher institutions show an almost equal number of the ratio of females to male with some exceptional institutions where female ratios have exceeded male ratios. It is recommended that the government should review affirmative action policies so that the recruitment does not favor one gender as it were before the programs.

Abstract: The need to visibly engender women’s participation in decision-making became a growing global concern through the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Despite the Kenyan 2010 constitutional provisions for gender mainstreaming, little has changed. This study sought to examine the level of women involvement in gender mainstreaming policy implementation on decision making in Baringo County. The study was guided by Equity Feministic Theory by Sommers (1994). The study used cross-sectional survey design and mixed method approach. The target population was 2446 respondents comprising of employees, members of the County Assembly and Members of the Public Service Board. The sample size was based on Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size determination to arrive at sample size of 329 respondents. Questionnaires, Interview guides and FGDs were used to collect data. Reliability was determined through test-retest approach. The quantitative data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean and Standard deviation. Pearson Correlation and linear regression analysis were employed to determine relationship that exists between the independent and dependent variables. Qualitative data were thematically classified and arranged before they were reported in narrations and quotations as per the research objectives. The study found out that there was a significant positive correlation between gender mainstreaming policy implementation on women political representation and women governance (r = .581; p = .000). The study recommends that there is need for streamlining of women appointment to senior positions in the county to allow for efficiency and inclusivity in governance.

Abstract: Global advances have been made towards the recognition of the principle of women’s political, socio-economic and equity in governance. However, some counties, including Baringo have not fully implemented the gender rule as provided for in the Kenyan 2010 constitution, hence little has changed. This study sought to analyze the influence of gender mainstreaming policy implementation on women political representation in Baringo County Assembly. The study was guided by Equity Feministic Theory by Sommers (1994). The study used cross-sectional survey design and mixed method approach where both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis approaches were utilized. The target population was 2446 respondents comprising of employees, members of the County Assembly and Members of the Public Service Board. The sample size was based on Krejcie and Morgan (1970) where a sample size of 329 respondents was attained. Questionnaires, Interview guides and FGDs were used to collect data. The quantitative data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean and Standard deviation. Qualitative data were thematically classified and arranged before they were reported in narrations and quotations as per the research objectives. The study found out that there was a significant positive correlation between gender mainstreaming policy implementation on women political representation and women governance (r = .581; p = .000). Abstract: Despite enormous development progress and a plethora ofknowledge on gender mainstreaming, assessments and evaluations demonstrate a significant gap in implementation, probably due to implementation-related issues. The purpose of the study was to examine the institutional human resource establishment towards gender mainstreaming in selected Universities in Kenya. The descriptive survey design was used on a sample of 371 respondents from four of the 37 targeted Kenyan public universities. Vice Chancellors, Deputy Vice Chancellors; Academics, Planning and Finance, Head of Procurement, Planning, Registrar Academics, Registrar Finance, Registrar Student Affairs, Registrar Sports and Games, Head of Departments, Deans of Students, Gender Department Chairpersons, and University Counselors were sampled using stratified, simple random and purposive sampling. The researcher consulted with the supervisors to guarantee the content validity of the research tools. The study used ‘split-halves’ and ‘internal consistency’ methods to measure reliability. The Key Informant Interview responses were reviewed, categorized, and presented in tables, pie charts, and graphs using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24. The results were given in the form of frequency tables, percentages, and narration. The relationship between the variables was tested using Pearson’s Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression. The findings are expected to be useful in developing newer strategies for implementing gender mainstreaming, raising awareness through public seminars and workshops, providing new knowledge to scholars for research and library use, and serving as a guide for policymakers on key gender mainstreaming strategies, among other things.
